Dandruff results from an abnormal rate of exfoliation caused by mineral build up and fungal activity. If your scalp is exfoliating at a rapid rate, flaking will resemble dandruff or the appearance of dry skin. If your scalp is exfoliating too slowly, the scalp will appear and feel oily from the excess sebum build up.
